I have a new T400 with a 5300 Intel Wi-Fi.....right now it is letting Windows set up the wi-fi upon boot up and it is slow....slow meaning connect time.

I had trouble trying to set up letting the Thinkpad software do it......any suggestions so that the Wi-Fi can boot right up with the existing router that is on all the time?

Thank you

Elliot

There's not a lot to work on in your problem description. You need to be more specific about what your problem is.

My new T400 has an Intel 5300 NIC......

When I first received the computer it would not stay online (wiFi) for more than 5 minutes at a time. I called Lenovo Support and they had me download some different drivers for the card.

Now I find that when I boot up the machine I have Windows XP booted and it takes about 5 minutes for the Wireless network to be connected. In the setup I have it checked that WINDOWS will configure the wireless. When I unchecked it, thinking that the Thinkpad software would take over, nothing happened.

So, I am back to Windows handling the wireless but taking forever to connect and not stay online even though the signal is 90%....it tends to disconnect by iteslef.

Thank you

Elliot

My experience with WiFi is that it either connects or doesn't. I cannot write the script for taking such a long time. If this were my machine, I would try a couple of things:

1. Uninstall Access Connections. Since you are not using it, uninstall it at least for now.
2. Then uninstall the wireless card and reinstall it. When you downloaded the new driver, you must have run the download which it turn put it in a folder. Know precisely where that folder is (Usually in C:\Drivers, but not for certain). Then when you uninstall the driver, restart. On startup, the wireless will try to install. Stop it and point to the location of the new driver.

Try this and see what happens. ... JDH

do you have anything around your machine that may interfer with your WIFI connection (phone, wireless stereo etc...) because I found that when I turn my wireless home theater on, sometime it will interfer with my WIFI, it takes like 10 min or so before it will even let me connect (router automatically switch channel I think)
