T400 random freezing on occasion

I've been experiencing some random freezing where everything'll lock up for 5-10 seconds, music will judder, cursor immovable. Has anyone else experienced this?

I never got this on any of my old laptops. I'm a bit concerned that playing games on it the heat has damaged something, as the fans don't tend to spin up enough to get rid of it on their own and I've had some lock-ups during game sometimes.
