Hi!

I have been looking for a T400 but it must be WXGA+ (or any resolution more than 1280x800) and it must be LED backlit. It has almost been a month now, and such a (obvious) spec is still not available, though it was there the first day I visited the site.

Any idea, if it is because of such screens being "out-of-stock" or that there are no thinkpads with 14" screen, WXGA+ and LED backlit? Any other model?

I have one of these models. It took a lot of waiting & watching Lenovo's site until they finally appeared. It's simply a high demand model which causes the LED backlit display to be hard to get. That said, they are still in production and it's just a matter of watching the site closely. They were available as recently as a few weeks ago, but I've not checked since then. If you have the time & patience you should be able to get one.

I think I've seen others order them through the academic channels.

This is strange. Because it has been almost a month since I saw that option. Is it possible if I call them and ask for such customizations?

I checked the Lenovo USA site yesterday and they are available once again. I don't know about other market areas.

Really? I think you misread the Web site. There's no WXGA+ LED screens out there right now. Just WXGA LED. If they were available, it was a 10 minute window at best. Now they're gone.

Might I suggest you get the CCFL backlit screen instead? I just got one yesterday, and it's surprisingly bright and easy on the eyes. I really love it!

Well, I called them and asked if they will be shipping LED backlit WXGA+ displays any time (ever). They said that there is no way to know it beforehand, and that people who order stuff to be delivered from China to Lenovo are the only people who know. Once *they* order, *they* tell these guys what has been ordered so that they can update webpage and start accepting customers.

Of course, they are not going to order it just for me

So, either I wait and wait, without knowing it is ever going to happen, or I go with CCFL based display...

LambertJohn: I already have a laptop which is WXGA and CCFL based. Although, its warranty period expired last month and it is kind of flaky (2 repairs in 1 year).
