If you provide us with the model of ThinkPad you own, and what OS selection you made upon ordering it (if you bought it new) then it will be easy to advise you.
Since you posted this in the T400/T500 forum I will assume for sake of conversation that you have one of those two models. Based on my experience when ordering mine, the only way to get XP was to order it as one of these two choices:
Genuine Windows Vista Business with Windows XP Professional Downgrade**** [add $79.00]
Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Windows XP Professional Downgrade**** [add $149.00]
If you chose one of these two then your computer should have come with the Vista Disks, which include the Rescue & Recovery partition. However the fact that you are asking, leads me to believe you did not receive this media. If this is the case, I would call Lenovo and have them send it to you.

Its a t400 model number 2767-bk1, It came with windows xp, and I want to upgrade to windows ultimate. The problem is Lenovo will not send the recovery discs for vista ultimate, Because the computer originally came with vista buisness.. Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate everybody's help....

Well, the simple answer is that you would not be able to create a recovery partition for Vista Ultimate without the Vista Ultimate recovery CD's.
