Welcome to thinkpads.com!
Determining the "true value" for any piece of gear is a hard (if not impossible) thing to do. The best suggestion I can make is to go to
http://shop.lenovo.com and configure a system like yours. I quickly did that and came up with a $918 sales price (some things were not the same, such as your 120GB HD and only a 1 year warranty).

You never said what you paid for it? Never-the-less, I think I saw this same computer on eBay. It was selling for $579 or something close to that. Sounds like you got a pretty decent deal. But it's all relevant to what you're going to do with it. But my opinion is this, a T400 for less than $600 with 1440x900 screen, 3-year warranty, etc. etc., is a pretty good deal no matter how you look at it. FYI, you should call Lenovo and verify that warranty. I think it's 3-years on-site, not return-to-depot. That's a big difference. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Lenovo does cover the battery for the first year.

A couple of things look odd about the description.
1. I don't think any Thinkpad other than the W700 has a keyboard with 101 keys.
2. I don't think any newer T series Thinkpad starting with the T60s has S-video out.

Thank-you all for your replies.
In my rush to post, I forgot to put the price.
I paid $515 for the laptop.

You are probably correct. I am going by the description given by the seller. I have not verified yet as the laptop is still in transit.

I doubt that you will be ripped off, depending on the condition of the hardware, I am very happy with my T400. It is my primary workstation.
Once you get it, post back to this forum and we'll see if we can help.

Okay guys,
I paid $515 for the laptop.
I just called Lenovo and verified that the warranty is:
on-site repair service Mon-Fri, except holidays, with a next business day response objective
So did i pay too much for the laptop?
Also, a question about the warranty.
From my understanding, Lenovo will come to my house within 1 business day if something goes wrong with the computer. Am I reading this correctly?
Also, does this cover accidental damage to the laptop? Is the battery covered?
Anybody have experience with Lenovo's warranty service? are they any good?
Thanks, I really appreciate the help since this is my first thinkpad.

Well, I think the price is somewhat appropriate.
If you look on ebay, this type of laptop goes for $500-600.
So all-in-all not too bad.
laters,

$515 - great deal imo... T60 and T61 are still selling on ebay for that price. The warranty is worth the price, having piece of mind.... you could easily flip it next year for $400+
i'm jealous, let me know if you want to sell it to me for that price

. hope you enjoy your thinkpad .. congrats and welcome to the forum!!
btw, your warranty typically doesn't cover accidental, this will add easily another $200 value. For more details on your coverage, check this link when you get your laptop for details on parts covered and extent of the coverage.
