T400 - Wake on Lan

#1 Post by Sandybanks » Thu May 28, 2009 2:09 am

Hi,

I desperately tried to get WoL for the onboard interface to work. Can someone please help me to configure it correctly.
In BIOS I've set all the following settings to enabled (Config->Network), although I don't think they all regard to WoL:
- Wake On Lan
- Flash Over Lan
- Enthernet Lan Option Rom

Technically that should be it. However, additionally to the settings above I've set the following within the driver settings of the interface:
Wait for Link - On (also tried it with that one off or automatic)
Wake on Lan - adressed & magic (could choose none, magic, adressed, both or OS-dependent)
Settings for WoL - Forced (the other setting would be deactivated)
In power management -> Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby - checked

I hope you can find those settings within your advanced-tab of your driver as I've tried to translate them from german.

Now, I've updated the Interface-Driver to its most current version (9.52.10.1003) and also flashed BIOS to its highest available version (3.00).

My plan would be to be able to shut down the computer via RDP from another computer and wake it up through magic packet from an ubuntu server.

Thanks for your help!

My experinece with WOL is that it just works if you have it enabled in BIOS and you sent a magic packet to the MAC address and subnet mask of the target machine. There are many variables however, many of which are discussed in this thread.
