Thinkpad T400s ?

#1 Post by beaker » Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:58 pm

The new Thinkpad 400s is going to have the following features and chipset:
SP Series
1. SFF package CPU, chipset is packaged SFF
2. With built-in optical drive
3. X200 thickness and more or less the same weight can be controlled at around 2kg
4. Screen frame is symmetrical, of course, not smaller width, 1cm around
5. The keyboard is a 6 line, ESC and DEL great square, and the SL series of
keyboard similar, I do not know whether there will be any other suppliers
6. Touchpad similar to the design of matte, more rough, feel good
7. Comparison of the mold changes, and memory design to the bottom of the
machine, unlike the past in order to open for memory

This is confirmed with another retail vendor advertising the 400s with the new chipset:

Any idea on when these will be available from Lenovo's webpage? Also does anyone have any guesses as to when Windows 7 rebates will be available from the webpage? I know that June 26th is the day that upgrades are supposed to be available but will Lenovo likely respond quickly and get those options posted on their online store?

Do you have a credible link to prove this configuration and machine will be available in the USA?

The title of this thread is irrelevant to the 400s, they are different machines. In the future please title your posts appropriately.

Thank You.

Here is a company offering a T400s in Australia
http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecific ... mID=378131

Is that credible enough for you? Please review the dimensions listed on the above page and note what they are in relation to the X301.

I don't work for Lenovo, so I am not privy to their USA release schedule. As a Thinkpad enthusiast, I am interested in a "X302" now. I am sure there are others on the forum as well.

I am also sure you remember that news of the W700ds broke in Australia.

I'm not being critical of your post. I was simply asking if you had info for the US market.
Lenovo designs market specific products, and some that are shared between markets. That's why they do not all have the same model numbers, nor do they all appear in the same Personal Systems Reference book. Lenovo separates then according to markets. I'm already aware of Lenovo's choice to release that particular T400s in Australia which is why I asked you for USA specific info.

You did'nt mention this in your post, thus the title seemed irrelevant.

Nor could I. This is another reason I asked the OP for a credible link.

That thread suggests users are guessing..

So until proven otherwise and even though speculation can be fun, I'll take this thread with a pinch of salt ;)

Does it mean that Lenovo has "finally" ruined keyboard layout of T series as well ?

Thinkpad T400s ?

#11 Post by dr_st » Wed Jun 10, 2009 5:07 pm

Found this thread in the Notebookreview forum:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=388918

And this picture:

And this blog:
http://www.superonsdag.no/blog.superonsdag.no/?p=257

Something like this to be released without anyone talking about it? Is this like the biggest leak ever? Seems too indepth to be fake.

Looks way better than the regular T400, except the keyboard is messed up (Ins/Del). And totally different, and incompatible with T-series, so it seems.

Probably should have called it X400...

I like the look of the 400s! back to the old slim days of the t43!

It is a lot of money though for the changes they've made... I personally wouldn't get one of these and would just wait for the next series of thinkpads when the new intel chip comes out later this year..

Looks very interesting.

I don't care for the keyboard changes. I hope the US keyboard's enter key remains the same.

According to the specs, this thing is a lot slimmer than a T43, which wasn't that much slimmer than a normal T400.

The enter key on the US keyboard will remain the same, as will the layout of all the typing keys. These were always country-specific.

What slightly bothers me is what they did to the Insert/Delete. I can see some justifications, but it is just a too confusing. And this I am pretty sure will be on all keyboard layouts. :(

This is unacceptable. Lenovo definitely ruined (after displays) the last old ThinkPad unique feature - the keyboard. R.I.P

Actually it doesn't look like there's a Thinklight, either - bummer. Nice feature. I use it all the time on my X31.

I guess Thinklight is still there (will be removed in the next T series, right ?). Look at detailed keyboard layout picture. The blue icon is on PgUp key.

What would be nice is a water resistant fiber optically lit keyboard. Thinklight is cool, but backlighting is really cool.

Moreover there is no PCMCIA/ExpressCard slot. Why ? Because Lenovo still blacklists devices in BIOS that you can not use various obscure mobile Internet hardware.

The bezel's a bit thick (at least it's symmetrical without the idiotic louvres) and the sports car-curve of the trackpoint buttons looks like it's trying too hard, but other than that, no complaints. It's not a huge looker, but at least weight-wise looks like the Z61t is going to get a worthy successor at last.

I like the eSATA/USB combo port -- I have not seen such a thing before. On the other hand, I hope the 2-in-1 audio connector won't require a custom plug just to use headphones.

About time to drop RJ-11.

Not sure about the keyboard changes, but this isn't something I couldn't get used to, personally. btw, the new screenshots show a US keyboard with the smaller enter key, so don't worry about that.

I have to say this is one of the 'cleanest' thinkpad designs I've ever seen (bottom side, touch pad, new status led layout) and would love some X300 comparison shots someday.

now we are talking....

something thin/light and can run a bunch of virtual machines....nice :D

I was just looking at a 13" macbook pro which now can run up to 8gb ram....now I see this...I wondering if to hold off....[censored] it..

It is still better than previous one. Actually I think that it looks thick because it is flat while T4x and X3x series had sunken display with raised frames.
