T400s Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with dedicated gpu

#1 Post by ssd_thinkpad » Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:53 pm

It seems the Mini Dock Plus Series 3 has already a dedicated gpu installed. From the official T400s lenovo video the form factor is the same as the 30 $ cheaper Mini Dock Series 3. That's great news!

Indeed! Very cool concept, and the price is right. I hope to see some images of it soon, but if it is roughly the same size as the current mini-dock, it sound so much better than the huge expensive Advanced Dock, for which you need to fetch an additional PCIe graphics card, from a very limited range of choices.

Now I wonder what that video controller would be.

Overall, I'm very impressed. My thought is that the "3" series docks, may indeed be the new standard for all upcoming ThinkPad models. Very exciting indeed.

Cheers...

The T400s lenovo video is showing all three series 3 docks and all three look like the advanced mini docks from the actual series.

I'm confused. Where does it say anything about a dedicated gpu?

Hmm 4 video outputs... I wonder that might hint towards perhaps LCD + 2 external monitors at least?

In the description for the "Mini Dock Series 3" (the non-"Plus") version, which has one each of VGA, DVI, and DisplayPort, it says that "the video controller allows for any two video ports to be used simultaneously."

However, the Plus version, which has one VGA, two DVI, and two DisplayPorts, lists no such restriction.

Certainly not conclusive, but interesting nonetheless.
