I just ordered a T500 today with a 250gb hard drive. I will put in a 500gb drive as soon as I get the machine.
Can I take the 250GB hard drive that follows the T500 and put it in a Ultrabay slot and then run the restore program for installing windows on the new 500gb drive as will be my C: drive?

Any suggestions for which 500gb to buy? I want the fastest one I can get....

The fastest mechanical drive right now is the Seagate 7200.4. Why not just make the recovery discs and restore the new drive from the discs? Alternatively if you buy a Seagate drive you can get a free download of DiscWizard from Seagate's website. DiscWizard is a limited version of True Image, which is a very good imaging tool. You should be able to clone the drive and throw it on the new one as long as you've got an external drive to put the image on. It might be kind of big though.

I did find some reveiws online, that recomended the Seagate 500gb 7200.4, so I bought one, 130 bucks shipped.

Will I be able to burn out recovery dvd/cds when I get my new computer?
