how long can T400 sleep with 6-cell battery?

My old laptop hibernates when I close its lip, while my new T400 only "sleeps". I feel it consumes little power in sleep. When I wake it up, the power gauge isn't changed too much. How long can I expect it to sleep without going to hibernation on a 6-cell battery?

You can change this behaviour in Power Manager. Change the 'lid close action'.

When I 'suspend' my laptop, for some reason it eats through battery at an abnormal rate, never experienced that on my first laptop (T41p).

At one point i ran a test where I let the computer standby for about 3 hours (this was on my T60 though) and it only used about 3Watt-hours of power from the battery.

This is something like 3% of a 9-cell or 5% of a 6-cell battery, so extrapolating means that you can standby for a VERY long time.

Personally I almost never hibernate unless I know the machine will not be used for 6+ hours...

the minimal power usage from staying in standby is worth the almost-instantaneous response when I start it back up (although if you have an SSD, restoring from hibernate is pretty darn fast anyway)

This matches my experience - 2-3 days.

Hi ljwobker, I wonder that you have any problem wake up your T400 from standby? I 'm having that kind of problem. I couldn't figure it out thus I could only hibernate my T400 and can't put it on standby (when I try to wake it up, it will stop working everytime I use the standby option which is very annoying.) How do you overcome such problem? Would you explain? Thanks in advance.
