Linux on T400s?

#1 Post by goatofmanycolors » Mon Jul 13, 2009 11:43 am

Has anyone installed Linux on the T400s to test functionality? I'm wondering specifically if the camera, etc. work properly without a ridiculous amount of effort.

Thanks,

I have installed both Fedora 11 and Ubuntu 9.10 (alpha) and both support the webcam out of the box. I tried it by launching Empathy and trying to call someone on gtalk.

The two notable things that don't see to work are the fingerprint reader (Fedora at least showed options for it, but it wouldn't actually read my fingerprint; Ubuntu didn't show any options), and the two-finger scroll functionality.

Off topic, but does that means that you successfully used video chat from empathy to the google gtalk client?

No, I haven't actually tried that. But it sure looks like it would work; I can see myself in the video preview, and the contact has the webcam icon, indicating that it supports it. I just don't have a close enough friend that uses webcam that is online for me to try. :)

I don't think it would work then. See http://live.gnome.org/Empathy/FAQ#head- ... 2933a9eeca

Another data point: I used Wubi to install xubuntu 9.04 on a T400s. I haven't tried the webcam but everything else appears to work well (except hibernate, but that's a property of Wubi-based installs).

I assume two-finger scrolling isn't working for you either? I'd really like to figure out why that is the case, as one of the main reasons why I picked this model was to be able to use two-finger scrolling (coming from a MacBook Pro, that is the one feature that I would really miss on a PC).
