Reformating T400

#1 Post by thnkpdrox » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:41 pm

how do you reformat the computer. is it possible to reformat it to the same state when i received it i.e with all the pre-installed programs or is it possible to get a clean version of vista.

i might also consider updating to windows 7 RC. is that a good idea? are there up to date drivers for windows 7

You can easily recover the system from the service partition. If this partition is still intact press F11 at boot. You should be presented with the pre-desktop area. Look here for restoring your system. If there is anything on your drive you need back it up before recovering as everything will be erased.

I think I saw if you've got the switchable card there's some issues with the GPU drivers. I personally didn't find Windows 7 to be all that much different from Vista.

If you do decide to go ahead and install W7, make sure you create recovery discs for your current system should you want to revert back. Installing W7 will change the mbr and disable the possibility to recover from the service partition.
