Just thought I throw this one out there. What tangible effects does having a carbon fiber ribcage have compared to the magnesium alloy ribcage in my T61p? Does this new material lead to the increase in price? Or rather, do the costs outweigh the benefits?

You are asking for a design/cost comparison for which nobody outside of a Lenovo design engineer would have the data to answer correctly. Those engineers do not hang out here, and even if they did they would not discuss how much a magnesium roll cage costs vs. carbon firer.

Well, that's why I said "tangible" to see if ordinary people can notice a difference. I guess not huh?
