Is it a good time to buy?

I am wondering if the current deals on a lenovo T400 are good. I never thought about a thinkpad until I tried one out recently and fell in love with it. Here are some things that I will use it for - I would mostly use this laptop for school, and would like to run a distro of linux. I also will be taking some programming courses this upcoming semester.

My reluctance to order is primarily due to the fact that I do not know the product cycle of lenovo. For example someone told me to hold off a month and the t400 and t400s will become cheaper after the back to school orders are placed. I personally do not see the t400 being any cheaper then it is in a month. Any advice will be helpful. I just want to know if I am getting a good deal.

Here are the specs for the machine its is 1108 + tax

Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9600 (2.8GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2)1
Genuine Windows Vista Business 6412
14.1 WXGA+ TFT, w/ CCFL Backlight, Camera
ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 with 256MB
2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)8
UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
80 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm4
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim (Serial ATA)5
Integrated Bluetooth PAN
Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology10
Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable
6 cell Li-Ion Battery60

Thanks for your input

In all honesty, T400 (not s) is already so dirt cheap, that I have no idea how it can be made cheaper. :? $750 starting price for a T-series? Granted, with crappy specs, but still!

Your particular specs look very nice. I assume you don't need a big hard drive, so you stayed at the minimum? See if you can perhaps upgrade it to a faster one at least (7200RPM).

It's tough to get the absolute best price because they yin and yang so much. About the best you can do is wait and watch for awhile so you'll know when it's relatively low. If you're looking to save a few bucks, I'd say dropping the T9600, unless you've got a specific need to run CPU intensive tasks all day and I don't know maybe you do, is a good place to start. Office and Internet don't need much CPU power.

There's some back-to-school coupons available through 9/2. Try this link:

Thanks for the replies, I have the EPP discount only thing is I can not use any of those coupons. It seems the price is not going to drastically drop within the next month so I guess ill wait around a week and place the order. Thanks again.

I think your decision to buy soon is a good one. While there is no way to tell about pricing, I tend to agree they are unlikely to go down further, so get it while you can.

Cheers...
