New harddrive in Ultrabay Slim not fully recognized by T400s

Hi,

I've just installed a new 500GB drive in the Ultrabay using the SATA Bay Adapter III. The driver was installed and Vista reports it to be working properly. The new drive appears in the "Safely Remove Hardware" section, but not as a drive under computer, so I cannot access it. I assume I need to format the drive? I've been in BIOS and it appears there, so I really don't know how to proceed. I have tried to restart and to remove/attach the drive again.

Thanks for any advice!

Basically, you have to partition the drive first (create logical volume(s) on the physical drive).

To create a new partition (Vista calls it a "volume"), click the Start button, type diskmgmt.msc, and press <Enter> to open the Disk Management utility. Right-click the "Unallocated" space represented in the program and choose New Simple Volume. Then follow the wizard's steps to create and format (use quick format) your new volume. When you're done, you'll see your new volume represented in Disk Management's graphs and it will be ready to use.

I learned something new, that was simple enough with your accurate description!
