T400s cannot connect to router

#1 Post by gazi666 » Mon Sep 07, 2009 8:44 pm

My notebook(T400s) (Type 2815-2CB) cannot connect to a router in my office (Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH). It always holds at "Waiting for IP Configuration" (even I type the wrong password). Colleagues using other notebooks (e.g. MacBook Pro) can connect to that. The router uses WPA2-PSK AES security.

Another issue I want to raise. My operating system is Windows Vista Business (Traditional Chinese). When I go to the device manager and view [Properties => Advance] of the "Intel Wifi 5100 with Pan", all the settings are unreadable. I guessed the driver may use the "Simplified Chinese" encoding. But even I change Windows to be "Simplified Chinese" as non-Unicode language, it does not help.

I have tried to change the driver to be "Intel Wifi 5100 AGN" (Download from Intel Official Site). But it seems that is not the right one. And I have performed both System Upgrade of ThinkVantage and Windows Update

Thanks

The machine is new. So make sure you have the preload ethernet driver and connect to the router by wire. See if works. Assuming so, download the correct WiFi driver for your specific model and try it.

Go to www.lenovo.com -> Support. Enter your specific model in the space and find the driver. It really should work. ... JDH

I can connect to the router by wire. I download the driver (Version 12.04.0000 - 6HWV04WW) from lenovo support site. That driver is "Intel Wifi 5100 Link AGN". After I installed it, I still cannot connect to the router. I have another temporary router, I can connect to it with the existing driver ("Intel Wifi 5100 Link with PAN") but not the one download from lenovo site.

If the system is in warranty, you can call Lenovo support. However, you need to use their driver.

Given that you can connect to one router, you know the wireless NIC is probably OK from a hardware perspective. I would consider upgrading the firmware on the two routers and trying again the Lenovo driver for your system. Be sure to uninstall first and restart. If you are using Access Connections, you probably should uninstall this until you get the driver and router sorted out and then reinstall it.

I have difficulty to get the support because the router is belong to my company. I would like to ask is my wireless adapter support 802.11n? Also, I think the official site of Lenovo should include the driver of my wireless adapter.

The official Lenovo site does show drivers for both Vista and for XP for the Intel 5100 WiFi card. Go to Lenovo Support, enter your model (2815-2CB) in the space provided and click on: Drivers and software - ThinkPad T400 and T400s . The drivers are in there. ... JDH

As I said, the web site only provides "Intel Wifi 5100 Link AGN" Driver even though I type the 2815-2CB of my notebook. That is the wrong driver on the web site.

Try this:

click 'Start' and in the search box type 'cmd' (without the quotes)
right-click on the cmd icon and choose 'run as administrator'
click 'continue'
when the black box opens type 'ipconfig /release' (without the quotes)
then type 'ipconfig /renew' (without the quotes)

then try to connect to baidu.

I am not using a T400; however, if you maintain the driver is wrong, you really should contact Lenovo support. I think they will either (1) say the driver listed will work or (2) where to get the correct driver.

My notebook can connect to the router finally after performing some changes on registry. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233)

Interesting find. I checked all the (GUID) parameter settings on my Vista box and none of the connections have a "DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle" setting. Even so, I connect wirelessly to any good router with my 3945 a/b/g card. I will be helping a colleague with a T400 next week and see what he has.
