wwan Verizon on T400s can't activate any idea?

#1 Post by nong1 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 11:04 pm

Hi, I put the verizon wwan (FRU: 42T0961) into my T400s (2801-CTO). I updated the driver and everything ready to connect. Unfortunately, when I tried to connect to the wwan, it said that I need to activate the card. I've tried to activate via internet (other option is to call but I live in Thailand). It shown that the card is out of the coverage area of verizon (error QA918) . I would like to use my sim card carrier in Thailand (DTAC). Anyone could help me on this issue?

Thanks for answer my question.

That's bad news for me. Do you know anyway that I could make it usable in Thailand? I wonder why lenovo selling this card with can only use it in US? How about other customers around the world or people who carry thinkpad travel around the world. Will they be able to use wwan in other countries? Just curious though.

DTAC seem to be offering 3G services on the 850MHz band using 3G HSPA technology.... a Verzion card wont work with that service.

You really need to talk to DTAC!

3G services areat best only semi-standardised on a global basis... so, no matter what 3G device you buy from any vendor, it may not work in other countries.

Thanks for your answer Bill. Indeed, I have 2 Thinkpad (T400 and T400s). In my T400, I've got F3507g wwan which is working really good for me so far. I've purchased the Verizon to put in my new T400s (as I've looked in lenovo website under wwan). I assumed that it will work better than the F3507g because the web doesn't sell the F3507g (only have Verizon and AT&T). Thus, I decided to get the Verizon which got me in to this problem. I wonder what is the different between the F3507g and Verizon wwan card? (P.S. : I'm not a technician or computer hw expert.) Please give me some alternatives.
Regards.

Just got one of these cards from ebay works Great very fast but is for verizon only and global support is sub par IMO, the 3507 should work though be sure you have the antennas inside and to download mobile broadband connect as well as drivers trust me will simplify the process of adding a card than trying to install drivers and activate via customer service, gps works nicely too Good luck

The "AT&T" card is an Ericsson F3507g.

As far as I am aware, the Verizon card is 1xEV-DO technology based.

Verizon WWAN (FRU: 42T0961) should support the following WWAN features:

EV-DO/EV-DO Rev. A 850MHz
EV-DO/EV-DO Rev. A 1900 MHz
HSDPA/HSUPA 850MHz
HSDPA/HSUPA 1900MHz
HSDPA/HSUPA 2100MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 1800MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 1900MHz
Standalone GPS (Simultaneous)

EV-DO should be enabled by default so we are constantly asked to activate that at the very beginning. They should have locked the EV-DO part to Verizon only while the GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/HSUPA part is not being locked to a single service provider AFAIK.

To use your DTAC SIM card, please go to Access Connections (switch to "Advanced" mode if necessary )and then change the Location Profile to:

Verizon Wireless - International

For my case here in Hong Kong, I could simply go to the tab "Wireless WAN Settings" and choose "SmarTone" as my WAN service provider.

For your case in Thailand, you will have to change the "APN" accordingly and this is what you should use:

http://www.dtac.co.th

Usually both username and password could be blank. (Just leave them alone without entering anything at all)

Maybe you could give them a call next week just in case you really need some help for Access Connections:
