On my old laptop I was getting 14-18 download and 6-9 upload.
Well now you see how bad it is. I have no idea what's wrong. I've been looking at it all day now since I received it in the mail.
First I thought it had something to do with the Ipv6 said: Limited.
..So I unchecked the box for that. That did nothing. So I went into RegEdit and what should have canceled Ipv6 all together. But it still says limited.
Then I read that even if Ipv6 is limited it shouldnt slow down Ipv4 if it shows 'internet' like it does.
So I moved on to turning off firewalls and everything security. The laptops out of the box so there's no Norton's or anything like that installed.
I'm lost... I dont know what else to do.
Also under networks theres vince24L and vince24L (2) The name of my router and a duplicate? I tried to delete all connects and set up fresh but I'm used to XP and this Vista is frustrating.
Any help is appreciated. Internet pages take 20sec-40sec. to load!

While I appreciate your frustration, you really haven't given us much information to work on.
Please describe your past and present WiFi set up in reasonable detail.
Cheers,
Bill B.

My old set up was a HP pavilion DV1000 to a Linksys router. Today I recieved my T400 and it recognized my WiFi but its speed is veryy slow on tests and loading sites yet the status shows its ok. What info would you need?

I don't see such problems on my own WiFi setup (T61p with commercial Netopia Wireless). So while not similar to your set, I think it does rule out IPv6 because I have that installed and enabled. .... JDH

If you hook the same machine directly to the Comcst cable modem with an Ethernet cable, what are the speed tests then? What site are you going to for speed tests? Also, please see this thread and post as much information as possible. I am also on comcast -

When I hook it up through an Ethernet cable it is also just as slow. I test on speedtest.com.
All drivers are up to date. No firewalls or security. I dont know if maybe it has something to do with my router is used to 32-bit. Could that have anything at all to do with it? Or maybe old settings on router? I reset my router with the button in the back of it. unplugged modem and router and restarted everything to no difference in speed at all.
It sucks because Its a brand new computer 2 days old and I'm already having an issue. I'd really appreciate any help anyone could shed. As I am rather lost with Vista.

Ok, so it's not a wireless issue. Are there any other computers at this residence or place of business? Do they all exhibit the same speed test results?

My old laptop died but before it broke I was constantly at 15-16download/6-9upload.
Heres alot more info, Hopefully this will better help you guys:
Yesterday I received my new Lenovo T400 in the mail. I'll start off by saying on a scale 1 to 10 with computer knowledge I'm probably a 5. I'm about average at best. I made sure every driver was up to date. And for awhile I thought it might have something to do with IPv6 being "Limited". As I've read that causing problems at times. Well I unchecked that in options and also what should have shut it off completely in command screen. Still says "Limited" But then read that has nothing to do with IPv4 being slow.(IPv4 says "internet" obviously).
Specs for laptop:
Intel Core 2 Dual T9600 2.90Ghz
4GB RAM
64-Bit Vista Business
Intel 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection
Intel WiFi Link 5300 with PAN
-I'm using Comcast Internet. On my old laptop I was getting around 16download/8upload
-I'm in Aliquippa, PA(Outside of Pittsburgh)
-The problem is constant since I got my computer yesterday morning.
-I am running off a Linksys WRT160N N-router wirelessly.
-My computer didnt come with any anti-virus software so nothing on. I have firewall turned off. And all settings for power set to performance max.
-I'm on 64-Bit Vista business
-Speed tests from speettest.com showing anywhere from 0.16-3download/3-6upload.(Old computer was always around 16d/8up
-I'm using firefox as the browser. I did a speed test on IE as well and turned out the same.
Heres some screenshots if that will help:

Set the MTU in your router for 1492 (default is 1500) and see if that helps. Use a computer where you have not altered the TCP/IP settings to test. ... JDH

MTU 1500 should be fine for Comcast cable. Open up a web browser (Internet Exxplorer is fine). In the address box up top, type the following, or just click on this link;

Do a cut and past (or screenshot) of the entire 'Signal' screen. Post it here. I'm particularly after your upstream and downstream power levels. By the way, I didn't see anything wrong with the previous screenshots.

Your signals look OK. Here' s an explanation of what is acceptable;

I don't know what you might want to try or how far you will go to get to the bottom of this? How about going over to a neighbors house and logging in real quick....compare your download speed to theirs. Try a hot spot, like a Borders or a coffee shop. I would also load up a Linux Live CD to see if the issue is with windows drivers.

Your first post posted speeds vastly less than you are posting now. Maybe your supplier (ISP) is highly variable or maybe your modem needs service.
I have a good setup with a fairly reliable ISP and I am getting a steady 9.9Mbits/sec download. So your last post says nothing is wrong with your T400 (which is where we started). ... JDH

This seems like the best suggestion to me, in order to rule out any problems with the machine.
Also, when you hooked it up via a wired Ethernet connection, were you still going through your Linksys router, or did you connect directly to the cable modem?
PS: I recognize your screen name from Bimmerforums, so welcome

Ya I went straight to the modem. Not through the router.
Haha...yaa I also posted in the Bimmerforums off-topic about this. good stuff seeing BF.C members on other forums.
