Resume problems after Sleep

Hi folks:

I've got a T400 with Vista 64 on it, and am having problems with the resuming from sleep. About one time out of five the computer won't properly resume from sleep mode. When I resume I get the password screen, which I key in just fine; then the desktop comes up, and at this point if there is going to be a problem one of two things happens: either the taskbar is non-functional, or when I go to Access Connections to reconnect my wireless connection AC hangs. Either way, the system becomes progressively more non-responsive (e.g. can't bring up task manager, can't use alt-tab, etc.), until I have to hold down the power button to force it to turn off. When I turn it back on it then tries to go through the "resume" process as if it's coming back on from hibernation, and appears to have no recollection that it partially resumed from sleep and that I had to force a power off. The resume hangs with a black screen after about a minute, at about the point at which the password screen would usually appear. Then I have to hold the power off button down again for 5 seconds to force a shut off. Finally, when I turn it back on it says that a resume from hibernation failed and asks if I want to try to resume again, or discard the hibernation file and go to the boot menu. I choose the boot menu and then the computer reboots normally.

This whole process takes 10-15 minutes from the time I initially tried to resume from sleep, until I get a functioning system again. It's a real pain in the rear, and I have no idea why this occurs, but whatever the reason it happens fairly regularly. I don't have any USB devices connected when this happens, so it's not because I added or removed a USB device while it was sleeping. I've patched everything up to the current level, both Lenovo and Microsoft, and this continues to happen.

Suggestions welcome.
