T400 randomly goes into blank black screen

I dont think its sleeping because the "moon" light isnt on... the light that is on is the circle with the "Z" in it. That light stays on while i have a blank black screen. Anyone knows whats the cause of this?

Does it do this while you are using the laptop? Is the power light on when this happens? The circle/Z light is for Num-lock, it is irrelevant. I'd guess that if this happens while you are not using the laptop, it is either going into a blank screensaver or display sleep. These can be changed/adjusted in power management. If it happens while you are typing for example, then it could be a hardware issue.

Thanks for the quick response.. I believe it happens when I'm not using the computer but I couldn't be too sure. It's not sleeping though because I can't "wake" it up. This may sound dumb but, where is the power light? All I know is it goes blank and the only lights that are on is the first one, and the battery and a/c light and the num lock light. The only thing I can do is long press the power button, then turn it back on again. What could it be? I've messed around with power management and I made it so no matter how long I've been idle it won't sleep.

What happen if you press the FN key while it is in this 'powered down' state? The power light on a T400 is built into the power on button.

Ok it just happened again while I was using the laptop. It made a windows sound "dun dun" and then i got the blank screen. The computer is still on, I can hear it running. BTW, my power button does not have that light, I have a T400. I could not bring it back no matter what I tried. I believe I've tried the FN button, nothing happened.

anybody? I guess I'm going to have to ship it back and have them replace the main board if I can't find a solution.
