T400 issues- long term
T400 issues- long term
I know how every thinkpad model has one issue that most every machine will suffer from eventually. With the T4x series it was the BGA ATI Chip that comes loose, with the T61 it was the defective GPUs from nvidia.
Now that the T400 has been out for more than a year, what issue are these prone to suffer from as they age?

Nothing so far...heck of a machine eh?
The first time I used/owned one I knew it was something special.
Re: T400 issues- long term
Have owned a 14" T400 for exactly 1 year ( I know because my 1 year warranty just ran out ). So far, zero issues and very happy with it. It is by far most powerful machine compare with my previous thinkpads. Extremely quiet, very cool running, and dead silent ( especially after I swap with a ssd
). The machine is usable indoor and, more importantly, outdoor because I have the LED screen. 6 cell battery last for 5-6 hrs for normal use ( most time with wifi on ). What else can I ask for !!?
Ok.. may be perhaps a pound lighter haha.

Re: T400 issues- long term
I've had my T400 for about 6 months now and am extremely happy with it. It is faster than any laptop I've owned before and build quality is as good as any ThinkPad.
Its not as not as nice as my MacBook Air or my daughter's unibody MacBook, but is far nicer than the black MacBook my wife owns.
Switchable graphics are amazing. This thing is powreful enough for gaming on the discreet chip and gets phenominal battery life on the integrated, which are also powerful enough for video and older games.
Easily the best ThinkPad I've ever owned. If it only (natively) supported OS X it would be only machine.

My T400 (and T500) are both just over six months old. Running fast, stable, cool and quiet I am very pleased. Build quality is every bit as good or better than any other ThinkPad I've owned. So good are these two, that from time to time, it occurs to me just how trouble free they have been. Both have quite a bit of up time on them and I could not be happier.
Cheers...

My T400 2764 CTO is 2 month old, 2.8 GHz ,4 G DDR3, 7200 rpm, LED 1200x800 , Turbo Mamory, Switchable GPU, 9 cell etc..
It's much better that my Dell XPS STUDIO 13" ,2.6 GHz.
T400 is lovely surface, light, quiet , fast , nice KB, good out-door ,nice battery 7-8 h with 75% britness, etc... perfect
The only thing I didn't like that there's no back-up CD comes with it, and I feel regreted why I didn't order the Broadband card AT&T unlocked 80$ only . However I'm going to upgrade it soon by 128$ but I might need help when i want to fix it in the place under the KB.
Verdict:
T400 is the best 14" among all laptops ( Sony SR, Mac, DEll, Hp, Toshiba)

Re: T400 issues- long term
My T400 is probably 13-14 months old by now and it runs great. It's suffered in the backpack of a student and hasn't been treated gingerly (I don't throw it but I don't baby it, either). Only problem is the extremely mistreated battery which is good for 88% of it's design capacity and still declining.
I'd say software since I've had it has sucked, mainly drivers and how Lenovo handles things. Vista was okay but sucked after 6 months (MS's fault), Ubuntu didn't work as well as it had on older Thinkpads (having a nice new PC's fault) and the drivers for Windows 7 64bit RTM don't work for crap. It's still all technically "beta" but the launch is this month it needs to probably be up to snuff by now. Mostly on the power management, battery life is under par (it's reporting 3:40 for 90% with Max Battery Life and the Intel gfx) and it's running a tad hot (I think this is a switchable graphics issue and not fully shutting off the ATi when I don't need it). Somehow the beta back in January worked better than the RTM in October

Is this from Lenovo directly? Does all AT&T cards from Lenovo comes unlock?Ziad wrote:...Broadband card AT&T unlocked 80$ only
Re: T400 issues- long term
Yes I'm sure for more info take a look at (help me to decide) near BroadBand option. I read many reviews about this topic, all users asure that the At&t card is unlocked however the Verizon card is locked.
Good luck

Re: T400 issues- long term
i've owned my t400 for almost a year now and its been running like a dream. tough lil guy has been through thick and thin with me and its pulled through for me 99% with no complaints whatsoever.
that last 1%... i accidentally dropped it off the desk a few days ago with the power adapter plugged in and broke the internal power plug pin. i managed to fix the plug with a little krazy glue and its working again, but the connection just isn't as secure as it used to be. to apologize to my t400, i bought it an advanced dock, which should be arriving any day now, and gave it a full upgrade w/ Windows 7 (MSDN Version). if it still won't forgive me for my carelessness, i'm planning to stick a new SSD in it.
