T400+Win 7=No UltraNav? Does it work yet?

#1 Post by xxPaulCPxx » Sun Oct 25, 2009 9:45 am

I tried the Beta of Win 7, loved it, but the UltraNav software wouldn't install. I couldn't turn off the Touchpad.

Now that Win 7 is live, I looked at the driver matrix and there was no new driver. Does the Vista Ultranav driver work now, or is it still not supported?

I don't see any Windows 7 Ultranav drivers here. You'll have to try others or wait -

I have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit running on my T400s. The trackpad and buttons work fine even without any Lenovo drivers.

So far I think Windows 7 is great. I never had any problem with Vista, but 7 is nicer to look at and performs better. Well worth the upgrade, which was easy and quick BTW.

I know they work fine - that's the problem!

What I want is the ability to TURN THEM OFF! You can't do that without the proper UltraNav driver.

I really hate touchpads, it's one of the main reasons I use a ThinkPad.

There is also a new driver for the ultra-nav available from the lenovo support page. This driver enables full customization of the trackpoint and touch pad (including disabling the touchpad). You can either download it directly, or it will be an option when you run the new system update.

System update is pretty much the only thinkvantage tool I reinstalled after my clean Win 7 ultimate 64 install (along with the hotkey manager to enable full usage of the keyboard buttons/volume+brightness displays etc). It has been great because it was one stop shopping for driver updates that specifically let me choose only the ones I wanted.

PS: off topic but somewhat related to my post - if you find yourself with an "unknown PCI bus" in the device manager, installing the "AMT (I forget the rest)" driver from system update takes care of it.
