Switchable Graphics and Screen Brightness

#1 Post by Colonel O'Neill » Thu Oct 29, 2009 9:39 pm

Hello all,

I recently upgraded my somewhat new laptop to Windows 7 from the Vista it shipped with. After finally waiting for that Switchable Graphics driver from Lenovo (which switches properly), I find that I can't adjust my screen brightness when on dedicated.

For example: When I startup, it will be on dedicated, and the brightness keys will work. However, after switching it to integrated and back, the brightness keys fail to work. I have tried reinstalling the Hotkey package and the System Interface driver, to no avail. The keys always work on integrated mode though... although it's a pain to switch back and forth just to change brightness.

Also, the brightness control in Windows Mobility Center disappears under the same conditions, and the brightness controls in Power Manager also fail to work.

Does anyone have the same problem?

(Side note: Why didn't I wait till Lenovo released W7 with the EE tweaks? Whyyyyyy? Gah.)

EDIT: I updated the BIOS to the 10/16 version, and it doesn't resolve the problem.

yeah, I get this problem too. And just tonight I see the switchable graphics drivers are showing up in System Update finally.

Hey do you get the on-screen display when you adjust the brightness? I don't see anything on mine. :(

I do if I am on integrated... and if I have the onscreen display installed.

EDIT: I uninstalled the display drivers, system interface drivers, and OSD and redownloaded and installed all of them, and it is now working. I dunno what went wrong the first time.

Just wanted to update this a bit... after getting the latest from System Update, and a number of reboots, everything is working right again. I see the on-screen brightness adjust display. Switchable graphics is working, and my brightness setting is respected when switching between Intel and ATI.

There is another thread here asking about the W7 switchable graphics display in power management. Can you answer the questions in it?
