Win7 update media?

#1 Post by lbohan » Thu Nov 05, 2009 1:50 pm

(i looked around for similar question; if this has been asked here before, apologies)

I bought a T400 in August 2009; my understanding was that I would get (eventually)
Windows7 update media (DVD's?) when MSFT released W7 for real. I thought I also read
that it was MSFT, who would actually send the update disks.

Has anyone rcv'ed their updates, without asking for them?
or do i/we need to make an explicit request (at Lenovo, and/or MSFT)

I could probably download W7 iso's, from MSDN, the next time i'm at company hq,
but it w/b less time consuming, less error-prone to get factory-pressed DVD's ...

You have to actually register for the upgrade and pay about $17 to cover shipping and handling.

I bought my T400 back in July and went through a registration process on the Lenovo site. It went something like this: Register with CC details, get a response, send proof of purchase, wait... and wait... until credit card is charged the $17 and then wait... and wait... and still waiting! Not sure who the disc ultimately comes from, but the process is handled for Lenovo by a third-party vendor I've never heard of.

The registration page is here: http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/windows7-si ... _win7.html

I bought a 2 month old T400 for $580 Canadian and had to pay $30 for the upgrade disc. Still waiting for that too, and I will probably only use the license plus a clean install disc

I'm not sure where they are shipping those Windows 7 disks from. The Moon? It seems to be taking forever. I just got a shipping confirmation today.

Got mine... Gosh, I expected alot more for 17USD plus. Came in a small padded envelope, invoice, plastic sealed, Lenovo directions, 2 cd (Win7, Lenovo), and the COA stuck to the CD sleeve. No OS lable to slap on the palmrest ... hummm, but its here.

Microsoft picked the vendor to handle the process.

Ah yes, but those two discs worked like a charm for me... clean install of Win7 on a new hard drive, plus all Lenovo drivers and apps, all in less than a half hour. Smooth as butter 8)

The only weirdness was that the Windows disc looked like someone had dragged it along the road for a half mile. Still worked, but looked a bit beat up.

Yes, my disks were all scratched up as well. But they worked... I did the upgrade (had some games etc installed - did not want to start over). It was very slow - had to been a couple of hours (but I wasn't keeping track).

I noticed less memory and CPU usage in Win 7 immediately - like that :)

Is that COA sticker fixed permanently to the cd sleeve?

The following Lenovo applications have no Win 7 Support (the rest were compatible or had updates)?

I also received mine in the mail yesterday. $30CAD (cause they like to overprice everything in Canada).

I'm not going to use the Windows 7 CD, just the license.

My $17 Windows 7 disks arrived yesterday, same packaging as already described. Oddly, my confirmation email sent me to a UPS tracking screen, but the tracking number they provided was not accepted. They arrived via U.S. Mail.

I was surprised that Lenovo didn't handle the cost after spending $1800+ on a loaded T400 a month prior.

Win 7 works great, simple install... and System Update 4.0 will download the few Win 7 ThinkVantage apps currently available.

I ordered a set in Mid-August. No shipping confirmation, no emails, nothing.
