No Boot - Clear CMOS

#1 Post by FTC » Wed Nov 11, 2009 6:17 pm

Hi,

Today when I came home from work with the T400 hibernated it just refused to boot. It sat there with a black screen, no HDD password prompt, no error codes, no nothing. I took out the battery (worked w/AC), HDD and DVD in order just to eliminate some possible culprits, .. nothing. So I finally suspected about a corrupted CMOS which did not allow the machine to boot. Took out the palmrest and disconnected the backup battery for 1 minute and ... BINGO. ..booted to BIOS succesfully this time. After setting the date and time again, and putting all pieces together again, works as if nothing had happened.

Now the idea of this post is for if anyone finds itself in similar situation, to know the way out.. also maybe someone more knoledgable may know if the T400's do have some 'clear CMOS' pins which you can easily short and maybe save some pain on this whole procedure.

Thanks for sharing. No Thinkpads have 'clear CMOS' pins like most popular desktop motherboards. I wish ...
