T400s Mobile Broadband Card Question

#1 Post by fanqimeng » Thu Dec 03, 2009 4:28 pm

Hi all,

I got a T400s with the Wireless WWAN option "Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable". Now I want to connect AT&T broadband network using an sim card to use the internet. I was wondering if the "AT&T 3G BroadBand Option" at the following link is the correct one that I needed.

http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... u_area=yes

And is it easy to install the card? And is it the only upgrade that I need to connect to the broadband?

Thank you very much!

All you need is the WWAN card. However, P/N 43R9152 that you referenced is SIM-locked to AT&T. You may prefer the unlocked version of the same card (below):

Lenovo ThinkPad 3G WWAN mini card 7.2Mb/s GSM HSDPA GPS
P/N: 43R9153 (factory unlocked, works worldwide)
FRU: 43Y6479 (old firmware) / 43Y6513 (newer firmware) / 43Y6537 (newest firmware)

Hi, thank you for that. The link that you provided is dead so I am not sure if I have found a correct one. I tried to order by FRU with 43Y6537 and the one that I found is called "ERICSSON AT&T WWAN ADAPTER FRU". Is this the correct one? And do i need to install drivers seprately in Win 7?

I found a Lenovo F3507G WWAN card on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Lenovo-F3507G-W ... 27acfd09e0

Is this the correct one?

Thank you very much!

What's the difference between 43R9152 and 43R9153?

Do they sell them on the US or Asian website as well? I checked and was unable to find them.

It's "alive", but I don't know why you it is not alove for you. Here is a link to redirect you to the same place: http://tinyurl.com/43R9153

Yes, that's it. The drivers are the same for the item you found and this one. The only difference is that 43Y6537 is unlocked.

That listing is ambiguous. It lists 3 FRU numbers: 43Y6477 is LOCKED to AT&T, but the other two are unlocked. Only the 3 FRU#s I gave you in the earlier post are unlocked.

SIM-Locked vs. Unlocked. (Note: Those are Part Numbers for the Locked and Unlocked F3507g cards. The actual FRU#s vary, depending on firmware/"generation" of the device.]

Hi, Thank you very much! The link is indeed alive. But that one is a UK link, so I was wondering if 43R9153 is available in the US. Thank you.

Yes, but not as that number -- one cannot order "accessory" P/N 43R9153; however, one can order "spare part" FRU 43Y6537.

I 'm very confused about this but I think that 43Y6537 *is* locked to AT&T. I have got one with non- ATT SIM, and doesn't work or initialize. Sony Ericssson Wireless Manager reports it as locked and prompts for an unlock code. The HMM reports it as "USA" card. Also most Internet sources reports it as locked to AT&T. I agree some Ebay sellers reports it as unlocked, how that is not my experience.
T440s OK so far.
T420s NVIDIA graphics. Nice, then MB failure.
T400s Workhorse. two of'em, both faulty display with vertical stripes.
T43 °very nice° - MB reflown and dead, two of'em.
T42 15°, dead onboard wireless.
T40, dead memory slot, stolen from me
T30, stolen from me
TP600 dead
