minidock series 3 USB-ports ?

I have a T400s and a mini dock series 3.

the charging, rj45 network, and dvi-display ports on the dock work without any trouble or adjustments.

however when I connect an external usb mouse and an external usb keyboard to the minidock nothing happens.
Is there a switch somewhere (dock, driver, BIOS ??) to turn on/off the usb ports?

my mouse and keyboard do work when connected to USB ports on the T400s itself.

hm, seems I found the problem.

When I opened control panel/ hardware and sound / devices and printers

I found an undetected device "usb hub" and then auto-installed the drivers for this device.

now the USB-ports on the dock work!
