T400s first impressions

Start with the negatives...
1, LCD display is washed out at high brightness, black is not that black
2, For some reason Lenovo pre-installed MS Office 2007 and SQL server (I did not ask for it), now I do not have an activation code and have to uninstall them
3, Bigger touchpad (actually it is the layout) needs some time to get used to
4, Still has the slight humming from inductors when running on battery
5, Too expensive

Now something I really love this babe about:
1, It is really light; when I grab it I feel like grabbing a paperback
2, It is really fast and "snappy" (The official read/write speed of my SSD is ~300MB/s)
3, Great keyboard - I have used T42, T60, T61 and X200s, T400s surpasses all of them
4, Great software (including Windows 7) - first time I might choose not to uninstall the so-called "bloatwares" (or more rightfully called "productivity softwares")
5, Generally cool and quiet

I just got mine today, a 2808-DJU, a couple of comments - yes the screen is the brightest darn thing I've seen, it blinds me when on high. It does seem to lack some contrast. The touchpad has been giving me trouble due to it's size, I turned it off for now. I will have to adjust to the slightly different keyboard layout as well, I am going back and forth from X60 and T43's now and this is different (not in a bad way). I don't notice any noise from it, I'm in a room with three T43's and my X60 going along with all sorts of other items, so I'll have to give it a go in a quiet room.

I agree, it's fast, light, "handy", and I do like the keyboard feel. So all in all, I feel this was a great choice.

Okay guys. First thing first is the screen has different manufacturers which will affect the overall look of the screen. My T400 has the LG WXGA+ w/LED. Yes it is just the brightest and it really does blind me in a dark room! I haven't taken the T400 outdoors yet and am almost afraid to. That stray meteorite may come down aimed right at it! :P

There was discussion in another forum about how crappy their screens looked. When a comparison was made peoples LG Screens w/ LED made a difference.

I really like my T400. I can say for sure that the keyboard is no 600X.

That's ok- I can live with it :)

At least until I can find a T60/61 keyboard that I can swap with ;)

Yeah it's a keeper! I am primarily using mine for school. For home usage I either use the R51e or borrow my dads 600X. The core2duo, 64-bit capability, and 8gb (capacity) of DDR3 RAM are also nice touches to the T400 :)

EDIT:

Wait a minute! Is this for the T400slim??? Sorry guys and gals. The jog I took must have rattled my head a little too much! I have a T400- not slim.

Was just wondering, does your T400s make any annoying noise?

Mine is more quiet than any of my T43's or my X60, so no it's pretty quiet.

Yes it will make a humming occasionally when it is on battery power; this is a known issue of C2D CPU C4 sleep state so I will not blame Lenovo.
