Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to swap a wuxga screen from a T61p and put it in a T500 and/or W500 that has a lower res screen? Does it matter if the screen in the T500 is ccfl or led back-lit? Any warnings about difficulty or process; or just follow the maintenance manual? This will be my 3rd Thinkpad and I have done ram and hd upgrades before.

Just wondering why. The T61 screen is one of the worst I've seen.

Well, I agree that it's not great at all. However, my T61p died like so many others because of a faulty gpu and it has a wuxga screen. I can't afford a new t510/w510 with led 1920x1080 so I was thinking about buying an outlet t500 with a wxga or similar screen and replacing it. I really like high resolution screens for photoshop and cad work. Anyone else have a better idea???

You're going to have a hard time finding someone with T500 screen swap experience. If you do it let us know if it works.
Another option - a widescreen T61P with a non-Nvidia GPU.

I actually have both and have consider the swap.. I made a mistake and order my t500 with a 1280x768 screen.. thinking of retiring my t61 and giving it to my dad with my t500 screen (hard time reading 1680x1050)..

I swaped a t61 (14.1) screen before and it was the worst time I had.. pulling that back cover off was a bit hard..

if I ever attempt it, ill post it..

I'm actually in the process of the swap now.. but i'm swapping an older T60 15" into the T500 15"..

I know its valentines day and the wife just woke up without breakfast in bed, so ill have to post the pics later.. the T60 1680x1050 screen in the T500 and is working.. just need to screw everything back

A couple of points. You mentioned WUXGA. That resolution LCD is 1920×1200, yet you mentioned a resolution of 1920x1080. Also in the last post you said the swap was from a T60. In your first post you said it was from a T61P.

My local technician was successful in transplanting a glossy Dell CCFL WUXGA into my T500 which originally came with a WSXGA+ screen. It has been working great for a week now.

You need people who really know the job to disassemble the display unit; otherwise you're gonna have a serious cosmetic issue or some latches may be broken during the operation.

I never reference WUXGA, i only reference resolutions in my post. I have a t60, t61, t500, t510, original I was going to take a t61 screen into the t500, I changed to the t60 screen to t500.

Ah, I see now that the OP mentioned WUXGA.
