Some questions about the T410s

#1 Post by zhenya » Tue Jan 12, 2010 10:52 am

I'm looking at purchasing several T410s laptops but I have a couple of questions that hopefully some of you can help me with.

I understand that the T410s uses the ThinkPad Serial Hard Drive Bay Adapter III which allows you to add a 2nd 2.5" HDD. On previous model Thinkpads you are able to boot from the second drive. Can anyone confirm that this is still possible with this new generation? This would be an integral part of my disaster recovery plan as the built-in 1.8" drive is non-standard.

What are the differences (if any) in the integrated graphics between the T410 and the T410s? The T410s is listed as "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD" and the T410 is listed as "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD - AMT." Same thing?

Lastly, are there any limitations in the T410s that would stop you from choosing it over the regular T410? To me it seems like a very similar machine overall in a much slimmer package - you don't seem to be giving much, if anything, up.

Thanks!

I've ordered one but since there is no support manual on it yet its hard to know. I ordered on day one which allowed to select the I5-540 processor, which automatically added the discrete graphics card. When I ordered the this I have a copied PDF that shows the nvidia graphics as 516MB, but after making the order I checked the order status and it says NVS 256 MB. No idea whats going on, and nobody in India or wherever the support is has a clue what I was talking about. It seems that nobody accept the design team actually know about their products, very sad.

Also regarding brightness on screens, the link below I noticed on another forum, but notice the T400s and T410s nits, they are higher then the T400/T410. The T410 is saying 220 nits, the T410s is showing 300. This was a big influence to me as to why I went with the T410s. I owned a T400 and returned it (which was very hard to do because of their new terrible return policy) because the wireless was terrible and the brightness was way too low for an LED (250 nits), only a fraction brighter than the Dell Latitude D630 (which is non-LED). I cannot comprehend how a 220 nit LED screen is actually going to be good. The only other way you will get higher is if you do the T510 or W510 with 1080P graphics; I would think text would be just as small as the T410s 1440*900 300 nit, which is why I did T410s.

Thanks. I have the TABook, but my original questions are not clearly answered by it. I think I know the answers, but I was hoping for some confirmation.

The screens on our T400's are plenty bright. Not much contrast, but bright!
