Hello everybody. I have been searching in the forum and have found similar threads, but I don´t think a good idea to refloat a thread from 2008.

I have seen that these three machines are very atractive, I like the X200/s because of the battery life and lightness, but have seen that also T400 gives near the same battery life. Near 10 hours with 9-cell, I´m wrong? How much better battery life has the X200s over the X200, and this one over the T400 if exists in real usage?
In the other hand X200s is more expensiven then X200, and this one more then T400, is really such battery life diference to justify the price?
Second question is about X200/s screen, I know must to ask it in the X2xx forum, but since I have already started the thread here, and maybe any of you know about if it´s too small for the eyes?

I assume you're referring to fonts? In that case, just use a modern OS. Any modern OS supports variable DPIs for its UI fonts, so this is no longer an issue.

Of course, but then you´ll have to scroll more, will see less lines.., I don´t know if it´s an issue on a 12inch 16:9?

Uh... come again? Yes, if you increase the font size, you may have to scroll more... but if you have a lower-res screen you'll have less screen real estate, so it's pretty much the same issue.

Really, the only reason I see not to get the highest-res screen you can is if you regularly use software that relies on fixed-size UI components. Thankfully, most modern software isn't that daft -- but some is. :/

The X200s 1400x900 display is GARBAGE. Contrast ratio is utter crap. On the T400, it isn't as bad, but has ridiculous backlight bleeding. Haven't seen or used an X200, but wouldn't be surprised if it's the same.

Honestly, HP and Dells are better machines right now for display quality alone. Eyestrain after 10 minutes of use is absolutely unacceptable.

I bought a Mac, installed Windows.

Is there any equivalent on HP with that battery life? Equivalents to X200 and T400?

I don't think it's that bad -- at least mine isn't.

Is it as nice as a good IPS display? Certainly not. It's about average for a low-mid-level TN display. I wouldn't use it for pro. photo work, but as far as a subnotebook goes it's certainly acceptable.

Lenovo overdrives these displays to hit brightness levels that sells notebooks nowadays. 200 nits, 250 nits, etc is listed on all their displays.

What they're missing is contrast ratio, which is pretty appalling at 154:1. My Macbook is 750:1, and the difference can be seen in how much I hurt when I use my computer.

Meh. I'm sorry it bothers you. It doesn't really irritate me that much. Most of what I do is write code, and frankly, the X200s screen (while not as good as a 4:3 one for this purpose) does just fine. I totally understand that people with other usage patterns might find it unusable though. Ah well. Guess I'm lucky that I'm a code monkey.

It's great. Screen quality is excellent, almost as good contrast as my desktop Samsung S-PVA, but with not-as-good viewing angles (to be expected). I use Windows when I have to, if I'm just web browsing, OS X has almost 2x battery life due to better power management. Apple has worked hard to make their stuff seamless in Windows (multimedia buttons all work, and multi-touch touchpad is good). When I'm doing serious 3D modeling stuff, I'll break out my mouse, because having a scroll wheel is invaluable, but besides that, I don't feel let down at all having had a long history of Thinkpads.

X200s was neat to have such a light laptop, but I really couldn't take the screen. Maybe in my free time I'll get an X200 and do the AFFS screen mod when they get cheap enough.
