Ultrabay HDD Eject Problems

I have a Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320 gb in my ultrabay. During the day I need to get the best battery life possible since im usually not near an outlet and ive noticed that when the drive is running I lose at least an hour of battery life. I have been trying to shut it off using the "safetly remove hardware" feature in windows but it keeps saying something is using the device and it cannot be shut down, which is not true, at least not to my knowledge. I read somewhere that someone else had an issue when hot swaping with a 7200.3. Is there something I can do to get rid of this problem, aside from physically removing the drive. And if i do manage to get it to work is there a feature in the lenovo power manager which can automatically shut down that HDD? Thanks!

Make sure you haven't got a folder or open on the drive. I've found USB Safely Remove a useful tool to check which process is accessing the drive. You can then kill the process and shut the drive down.
