New Ultrabay hot swappable?

#1 Post by yak » Sun Jan 31, 2010 9:32 am

All the new ThinkPads (T410/T410s/T510/W510) use the new Ultrabay design introduced in T400s ("5" models additionally switched to the thicker, Enhanced version). When it first appeared on T400s I didn't give it much thought, I figured they replaced the eject lever with a latch located on the bottom for space reasons. But now it's on all models.

My question is, is it hot swappable? I know you can remove the drive but can I do this while the system in running (ie. "hot")? I really like the way this is done in my T60, I slide the latch, the lever comes out and I wait until the light goes off before pulling it out. What's the new way of doing this?

Thanks,
yak
