Which T410?

#1 Post by jrcade » Thu Feb 11, 2010 3:17 pm

I am debating long and hard right now on which T410 to pick up...one with Integrated graphics or one with discrete. I will mainly be doing work in Adobe CS4 (Photoshop and InDesign), possibly some Dreamweaver, but that will be the highest-end stuff I deal with on a daily basis. This will serve as a desktop replacement at work which I will run through the Mini Dock 3 Plus to two Dell 22" HD monitors. It will replace a five-year-old T43p.

I had built a T410 with i7, nvdia 3100m, 9-cell battery and was ready to pull the trigger, but have read that you will sacrifice some battery power with that config (five hours is still not bad). Other option is the i5, Intel integrated.

Of course, there is also the T400 line which is still available with the lower-end processors and reportedly much better battery life, plus switchable graphics, which I'm still not totally convinced is a dealbreaker.

Based on the primary work I will be doing, any direction would be appreciated...

The i7 has no extreme advantage over the i5's in speed, and the i5+nvidia reportedly gets 6-7 hours if you push it.
