T510 Monitor Question

#1 Post by seattleike » Fri Feb 12, 2010 10:25 am

I am ordering a 510 and need help with monitor selection. On the site the differences seem to be HD or HD+. What does the plus mean and what resolution are these? Whatever happened to WSXGA+, WUXGA etc??

Any suggestions would be great.

The HD and HD+ are the new resolution names. HD stands for 1366x768 and HD+ for 1600x900. FHD is 1920x1080.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

Thanks that makes it much easier to understand. Are switchable graphics standard with the discrete graphics card like on my T400?

Also which wireless card is most reliable? I have N at home and G at work. I use VZW MiFi card when mobile.

Much Thanks.

According to this: http://lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=349 switchable graphics are not available on the T410 or T510, but are on the T410s.

Also, keep in mind that the new display technologies HD, HD+, and FHD are 16:9 ratio. Point being is the older screens have more vertical viewing area, and these newer ones are wider but not as much vertical viewing area. The T410 and T410s keep the older aspect ratio. Only reason I went for the T510 is because the brightness is showing to be 220 nits on these newer screens unless you go for the T510 FHD, which is much higher brightness. The T400 has a 1440x900 screen with 250, which is decent, 220 I just dont know.

Brightness has never been a problem, unless you work outside, in which case probably no amount of brightness is sufficient. Considering that the recommended setting for text applications is normal lighting environments is said to be ~100nits, 220 should be more than enough.

Well said! One of the hallmarks of the T series ThinkPads has always been the excellent illumination of the display. Brightness is but one factor, which out of all the ThinkPad T's I've owned, has always been excellent. Another even more important quality is how evenly lit the display is from side to side, top to bottom.
.
Also the quality of design is such that I've never had any light leakage around the perimeter. Something that not all of the competitors can claim. I spend approx 7 to 10 hours in front of my ThinkPad for work each day, and have yet to experience eye strain or a lack of brightness. In fact in many cases I find myself turning it down.
.
Cheers...
