T400 OSD and switchable graphics probs

#1 Post by krosenstein » Mon Feb 15, 2010 9:00 pm

I've got T400 with discrete graphics, running Win7-64. I've got these problems.

1. Can't get the OSD to work. It's installed and enabled. I shows up when I adjust the volume, but not the brightness.

2. The system won't recognize the graphics card. I've installed the latest driver. I also installed the ATI control panel, but it won't run.

3. When I solve no. 2, how do the switchable graphics work?

I've solved 1 and 2 by doing following:
I configured the BIOS to force use of the discrete graphics by disabling the "let the OS choose" option
I then reinstalled the ATI software, an Bob's your uncle, the OSD started to work right, too.

BUT I still can't figure out how the switchable graphics work.

Alright... I was having a similar problem when I first got my T400. I think the ones from Lenovo System Update aren't right, as I didn't get the switchable graphics menu whenever I first booted the system. I ended up and uninstalled the ATI catalyst control center and the graphics adapters from the device manager, then found the switchable graphics drivers on the driver matrix page located here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... html#video

I downloaded the ones for Vista x64, and they seem to work just fine on my T400, running Win7 Professional x64.

Edit: Just in case you're not sure how to switch the graphics, you must have Power Manager installed. right-click on the battery icon, and select 'switchable graphics' on the drop-down menu.

LKA8,
Thanks. I did as you recommended with no change.

When I set the BIOS to switchable graphics and to let the OS decide, the integrated graphics load. The power manager has an option for switchable graphics, but nothing happens when I select high performance.

If I reset the BIOS to discrete graphics and disable letting the OS decide, the discrete graphicss load. And the power manager no longer has the option for switchable graphics.

Unless I'm missing something fundamental, it should be WAY easier than this.
