T400 "A battery error has occurred."

Plugged my laptop in last night to charge it up for the next day. Today I wake up and notice the battery light is flashing orange. My my this can't be good. The Power Manager reports "A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." I'll admit the battery is heavily worn (albeit only being a year and a half old). Power Manager says 381 cycles and the full charge capacity is 50.37Wh :!: (this is the 9 cell which had 84.24Wh originally). College student life hasn't been friendly to this machine.

Laptop is out of warranty (expired last September). I figured if any part really goes wrong on it it'd be cheaper for me to fork over for it than pay a few hundred for a huge warranty anyway. Battery isn't under any known recalls, either.

Strangely I had my old X31 do essentially the same thing after I replaced its cells.

Any suggestions on what can be done to save/revive this battery or should I just bite the bullet and get a new one?

Hi all,

Is there any solution to this battery error? I have the same problem, my battery Sanyo (42T5262) has displayed this error (with battery indicator flashing orange) after 60 cycles and around year and a half light usage - my T400 is mostly docked.

Thanks in advance for all the help,

Kind regards,

Hrvoje

There is no fix for the battery error. The battery has a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase, so since the T400 is fairly new, you should check for warranty coverage.
