W510 Pre-Purchase Questions

#1 Post by mdclow » Sun Mar 14, 2010 9:08 am

I am considering replacing my 15.4" T60 with the W510. I have a few questions:

1. for those who hav moved from 15.4 to 15.6, does the new machine seem to wide or hard to get used to?
2. I have a Samsung 245BW external monitor that supports up to 1920 x 1200. Will moving from 16:9 to 16:10 be a problem when using my Samsung monitor.
3. I have priced out the W510 several times on the Lenovo site and there only appears to be the option of ordering with the 9 cell battery. Does this 9 cell battery extend out of the back of the machine?

2. There does not have to be a correlation between the resolution of the laptop LCD and the resolution of the external LCD, unless you try to make them both display the same image at the same time. So the answer is no - there should not be a problem.

3. Yes, the 9-cell extends out the back of the machine.

1) The difference is minimal and offers more room on the wrist rest, as well as additional structural rigidity.

2) No.

3) Yes the 9 cell, chosen by Lenovo for maximum battery life on both the W510 and the T510 w/dedicated graphics, protrudes out the back and is very bulky. Since ordering the 6 cell is not an option, when configuring your new ThinkPad, I placed a separate order (part number: 51J0499) for mine. It fits flush with the bottom and back, so it does not protrude from any surface. It makes the machine lighter and gives it a much better look and fit in ones case.
