what software goes with webcam?

#1 Post by liblit » Sat Mar 20, 2010 10:47 am

I'm totally prepared to feel like an idiot when I hear the answer for this one.
Just got my T410, love the machine so far.
Have checked everything else out to make sure all is working--all good so far.
What software is meant to be used with the webcam?
(If they'd sent a manual along, knowing I was a dunce, I'd have figured this out already)

No idea with the T410, but I faced the same problem with the X100e and the Edge, both of which included a webcam, but no software whatsoever to use it with. In the end, I installed Yawcam (http://www.yawcam.com/), which works just fine. Skype also supports the webcam right out of the box (if you're using Skype).

Think of the webcam as any other piece of hardware, like your touchpad... it works with any application that could use it. Skype, instant messaging programs that have video features, apps that take snapshots, etc. Ask yourself what you want to do with it and find the software that best fits.

Personally I'm glad they don't ship the machines with any specific webcam software (besides the drivers, of course) because it would just be some extra junk to uninstall.

I recently added the webcam to my W500 when I had to replace a broken magnesium lid so I also was looking to find which software was included to use the camera. I discovered 2 things: Roxio Creator Business Edition has a section to record from the camera and the latest hotkey driver includes functionality to manipulate the camera driver on pressing Fn+F6. Try it out!
