T410 Cloning Problem

Hi,

I've been able to clone older Thinkpad hard drives before using Acronis. However, I'm trying to clone a T410 w/ Win 7 Prof 64 bit using Acronis True Image 2010 and it always seems to fail around the 90% mark when it's copying the C: partition. The laptop just shuts off. When I turn it back on, it says clone is complete, but the new drive does not work. It only has the SERV partition cloned.

I've tried cloning automatically and cloning manually with all the default settings. I've also tried True Image 2009 without any luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ed

Hi,

It's a T410 model 2516-CTO with an i5 processor, 2gb ram, 250gb hd, 14.1" wxga screen, camera, Win 7 Professional 64 bit OS. I looked in the BIOS, but couldn't find Disk Encryption. Where would I look for Disk Encryption?

Thanks,
Ed

hi ec...
sorry for delaysed response, travelling ....stuck on planes is no fun

Not sure why you cannot CLONE the FACTORY HARD DRIVE...
I have done a few t400 & 410s ,,via ACRONIS and never had any issues!!

here are some basic steps:

a) After going thru the (facgtory) INITIAL STEPS of the laptop..

b) Download ACRONIS from website , get demo model , as it will work as NORMA FULL VERSION for "CLONE" purposes.

c) install and run ACRONIS , make sure that if any "BIOS PASSWORD" and or ENCRYPTION password are removed - ie CLONE DO NOT WORK VERY WELL with them set!

d) Store HD and ,,,,,,,,,,,do as necessary
..

>ifyou have had FACTORY encryption on HD set , then please call Tech Support , as to how to switch off

hope this helps
