T400S Ultrabay SSD not recognized

#1 Post by tbrooke » Fri Apr 09, 2010 1:32 pm

I just got an OCZ Vertex 30GB SATA II Hard Drive and an ultrabay adopter- I got them both on Ebay and as far as I Can tell the ultrabay adopter is a Lenovo. I can not get it recognized. I opened setup and didn't see anything about installing a hard drive. I did see a check hard drive menu that had an option for Ultradrive hard drive but it said no drive available.

Did I miss something obvious? Is there something else I have to do to get the bios to recognize it?

Is this a bogus adapter or drive?

to be honest, majority of the adapters on ebay claiming lenovo products are actually 3rd-party ones, I guess the problem is because of the adapter

what is your laptop model? T400 or T400s

It is a T400s I have been checking the OCZ froum and it seems to be a common problem especially with Lenovo. The adopter is a 19.95 special from ebay so that could be the problem too. I did find that AHAIC wasn't supported so I switched to compatibility mode and there was some discussion about bios upgrades. I need to recheck but I think the mean SSD bios but it could be the T4000s. I believe there has been one bios upgrade since mine. I tried booting from USB with a fedora lives setup and I could not find anything with gparted.

Does anyone have this setup working? if it doesn't work is there a known ultrabay SSD setup that does work?

Is there anything else I can try with this setup? What about intel ME setup?

In the T400s, the adapter needs to be original from Lenovo, and it has to be the newest model (III). Anything else either doesn't fit, or does fit but is ignored by the T400s. The type of harddisk mounted in the adapter is irrelevant, AFAIK.

Thanks ordered an Adapter III and I'll see how it goes $19..95 with free shipping from Hong Kong sounded like too good a deal.

Hope I didn't do any damage with the old one

I got the ultrabay adopter III installed with the vertex SSD drive and it works great but here's the problem. I have Windows 7 on my main drive I have Fedora 12 on my SSD drive It is dual boot booting from the Linux Grub. When I switch back to my CD drive in the Ultrabay it will not boot from the hard drive. I can boot from a windows system disk in the ultrabay and I ran the windows repair of the boot sector and it says everything is ok. I have switched drive order in setup and that does nothing. I installed easyBCD and that doesn't help but thesystem nowgoe from GRUB to easybcd then windows or if I go to neolinix in easyBCD it sas non system hard drive.

I have been asking on the neosmart program (easyBCD) and no on know of a solution. I uploaded the disk manager view and the diagnostice report and no one has a clue.

I am posting here because I thought it might be a thinkpad thing. I mustt have moved the mbr or boot sector or else damaged the bootsector or done something to bios I am at a loss any ideas??
