Will the T400/T500 batteries fit the T410/T510 and work? I know that they have different watages.

No, T410/510 use different batteries than T400/T500. The new design was introduced earlier with the SL series.

I bought the SL410 6-cell battery and it doesn't fit the T410, even thought I double checked the web!
Also, what's with the T410 battery numbering scheme, it says 55, 55+ and 55++ now, I thought that they were the 25, 25+ and 25++?

Already wear them. I saw the info on this forum and then saw other several references, which proves you can't always believe what's on the Internet.
