T510 Questions

I was looking into getting a new laptop and I've been out of the scene, so to speak for awhile now and was hoping to get some more information. I'm looking into a T510 which I believe would be the modern analog to my old T60P.

Am I right to assume that the 1680x1050 LCDs are no longer offered? I really love that resolution and I'm not completely thrilled about dropping down to 1600x900.

Also, has anyone had any issues with overheating with the T510? I had a bunch of problems with my T60P and I had to replace the heatsink and swap out the thermal paste before it was solved. I'd like to avoid having to open up the laptop if possible.

And last question there were mobo RAM limitations on my current laptop so even if I ran Vista 64 I wouldn't be able to utilize more than 4GB of RAM. Are there any similar limitations with the T510?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, 1680x1050 is no longer offered. You're stuck with 1600x900 or 1920x1080.

The V52x0 card was fairly high end for its time and was known to run hot. The nvidia 3100 is not so high end.

The T510's max memory is 8gb. As long as you run a 64 bit OS, be it Windows or Linux, you won't be limited. The T60 was limited by the chipset. The T510 is not.

If you want WSXGA+ and can live with out the core CPU, the T500 might be worth a look. The 3650 is pretty close to the 3100. Plus it's switchable, which runs cool in integrated mode.

Hey thanks for the info I appreciate it. Is the 15.6" HD+ the 1920 x 1080 res or is that the 1600 x 900?

Thanks again for the help, I just ordered a T510. The only bad news is that it is going to take over a month to ship because of the HD+ screen.

Now the wait begins, the hardest part.
