I remember reading somewhere that the 6-cell battery sticks out the side of the T410s making it awkward in appearance and in handling. Is that still true? If so, do they have something like a 4-cell that stays flush with the chassis? I could not find this as an option during the online configuration nor is it listed as an an available accessory for the T410s.

I believe the T410 has only one battery option, the six cell, which sits flush with the case. On the regular T410 the 6 cell battery does stick out the back. As to it being awkward, I guess that's a personal opinion. To me it kind of makes a convenient handle to carry the notebook.

You meant the T410s in the first sentence, right?

yea.. he meant that the T410s only has one option, the 6 cell which does not stick out. you can also add the 3 cell ultra bay battery in place of the disk drive to bring the t410s to a total of 9 cells.

FredGarvin is wrong about the 6 cell on the t410, both the 4 and 6cell batteries do not stick out the back.. The 6 cell only stuck out on the previous T400 model. But they've changed the case design so that the battery sits farther in the case and 6 cell now sits flush on the T410. Currently, only the 9 cell battery sticks out on the t410 (the 9 cell now looks like the old 6 cell used to on the t400).

I actually just ordered a T410 and was about to go with the 6 cell but instead got the 9 cell battery because it looks so much better than the 9 cell on the previous T400.

Thanks for the update, but I never understood why people consider this a flaw or something.

Not a flaw, there just isn't enough room I guess. It's fine for people who work on a desk all the time, but I like to pivot and position the ThinkPad in every which way when it's on my lap, when I'm on the couch, etc.

Thought I'd just chip in and point out the the T4** and T4**s have completely different batteries. An T410s battery cannot stick out the back because it sits under the palm rest

any pictures of the batteries on that?
