best touchpad/pointer driver for T400

#1 Post by albo » Sun Jun 06, 2010 6:35 pm

Hi folks,

I've been trying to find the best driver option for my T400. I thought I had found it in the HP Synaptics driver (http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/19/syna ... trackpads/) which opens up some multitouch options on the T400 and some other things. The real downside with that driver, for me, is that the middle click + pointer scroll function is jumpy, and really reduces its usability. I use that function alot, so it doesn't really work for me. I accidentally found out that installing the lenovo driver without uninstalling the hp synaptics driver first seems to leave some of the multi-touch functions in there, while having control over the the other things that the lenovo driver gives you (and makes the middle click + pointer scroll smooth again). Problem is, you then have lost the ability to configure the multi-touch functions.

Has anyone here had better luck with any other drivers?

Thanks!

Huh, it never occurred to me to use a driver from a different laptop. I have a T410s and find the touchpad really poor. I suppose by Windows standards it's good, but compared to a Macbook it's unresponsive: the gestures don't work reliably nor does the palm check. I'd resigned myself to thinking that the Mac OS has an edge here, but you've peaked my curiosity. Please everyone let us know the outcome of any similar experiments.

does your 410s driver have gestures built in? if so, which ones?

Two finger scroll, pinch zoom, pivot rotate. Also, by the looks of it, user-defined application launching via two finger double tap and/or three finger press. And then: Three finger flick for further scrolling options. Mind you this is the re-designed touchpad for the T400s/T410/T410s onwards. T400 uses an older design, so whether that will work...

thanks. yeah - those functions "work", since by installing the hp driver, i'm currently 2-finger scrolling, etc with my touchpad on my T400. I just wish Lenovo would release a driver which enables these functions for the T400 touchpad. In the meantime, i'm having to hack it, which sucks.

lenovo still doesnt have chiral motion (allows you to scroll in a circle for continuous scrolling) implemented on the t410... no idea why. other synaptics laptops have it!
