hi all! i am a college sophomore who just ordered his first thinkpad. Ive been through dell, macs, everything. a few months ago i bought a new alienware m15x but was really disappointed in it. For what i paid, the components were great, but the build quality was really crap. i was afraid i was going to break it everytime i took it out of my pack for class. i remember my dad ALWAYS having a thinkpad issued to him from work though and after doing a little research about the solid build and internal chassis/legendary survival stories, i ordered one of the t510s with these specs- its a preconfigured model so i imagine itll be here <2 weeks.
2.4ghz i5(2.93 overclocked? whatever)
8 gigs ddr3
500 gig 7200 rpm hd
nvidia nv3100
9-cell bat
win 7 pro 64x(ill have to dual boot back track linux pentesting distro for my classes)
3 year wrnty from lenovo
im really excited because these laptops still look the same as 10 years ago!! it just looks like a MANS laptop haha. one question-
are there any form fitting covers/protectors available for these?? maybe similar to those found for the macbooks?

8 gigs of ram...
Your computer is going to be amazing. Enjoy it. I just got the same setup, except mine has 4 gigs of ram and a 320 gig 7200 rpm HDD, and it runs brilliantly.

yes i ordered an 8 gig set of mushkin from newegg.com. hopefully i wont have any problems with the install and by the time i ebay the 4 gig set in the system it will only have cost $150 bucks. thats a lot better than the 8 gig, $500 upgrade most builders try and stick ya with

i just hope the thinkpad feels as solid and durable as they are claimed to be. thats the sexiest part of it methinks.

When you're upgrading, be careful with the small piece of insulating paper on the keyboard side. You want to use something like a thin plastic chopstick and just light it lighty. If you bend it too hard using, lets say, your finger(nails) it can leave marks on the paper.
