Left touchpad button damaged

Hello all.

I've got a ThinkPad T400, and it has an issue with its left touchpad button, along the bottom of the touchpad. The button in question is no longer in sync with itself, in the sense that the bottom half of the button can depress while the top half does not. If I press the button from the top, it acts as it should. If I press from the bottom, the bottom part of the button sinks while the top part inclines as a result of the bottom part sinking, but the machine does not register a click unless it is pressed much harder than usual.

I'd attempted to remove the button, but could find no obvious way to do so, even after removing the palmrest from the machine. I've avoided using force to remove it as I would a keyboard key as I'm unfamiliar with how this button is attached, and fear breaking it.

Any tips?

Are you still under warranty? If so, call them and get a new palm rest. They'll probably just send you one. If not, you can look on ebay or google. The part numbers are 45N5967 for the palm rest with the fingerprint reader or 45N6137 without it.

I am still in warranty, and I will call them. I'm not sure why I didn't just think of that.. I'll do it in a few hours once the hotlines open. I'm still open to suggestions if anyone knows how to safely remove the key to inspect it, though.
