ThinkPad T500 LCD Scratched

#1 Post by escapedturkey » Wed Jul 21, 2010 1:19 am

I have a small scratch on my LCD screen. It's a 1680x1050 screen.

Some questions:

1) Where is the best place to get a replacement screen?

2) Is it also possible to replace it with the 1280x800 LED screen or can it only be replaced with the same exact screen?

3) Are there any instructions on how to replace the screen?

4) Is it possible to fix the scratch?

5) What is the best screen protector to get (for the future)?

Thank you very much. 8)

I can answer only some...

1) Don't know

2) Installing a LED may be more difficult, involving more components that have to be replaced

3) The Hardware Maintenance Manual: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 70068.html

4) There are some ways to cover it, I think it was discussed on the forums (or maybe I remember it from somewhere else)

5) Do you know what caused the scratch? I never used any screen protectors and never had any problems with scratches on any laptop. I find it difficult to imagine a usage pattern where a screen protector is mandatory to prevent scratches. Pressure marks from the trackpoint/keys are a different matter.

How big / noticeable is the scratch? Does it really warrant the replacement of a whole screen?

I bought a bunch of replacement lcd off ebay and just make sure they know its 100% lenovo compatible.

Yes you can downgrade the resolution, I replaced my t500 from 1280x800 to 1680x1050.

Manual - what I did was just remove the top bezel and not remove the bottom and unscrew left and right side and swapped

Pic of scratch ?

I took a 1680x1050 panel off a t60 and put it in my t500.

When you take off screws and etc, take pics so you know how the cable is routed within the bezel. I done enough of these, took about 20 min to remove the panel and labeling.. so take your time..
