First Impressions

So I just got my T410 and it's packaged nicely. It feels great and there is no flex on the keyboard nor any palm creak. There is two problems hopefully you all can help me with. First I used maximum battery with battery stretch and it states a little over an hour. It is at 30% battery and says discharging. What does that mean? and will I get more battery after this?
Also, when the lid is closed, if I press on it, it moves up and down, it's not 100% snug and no shaking. It rattles, do you know what I mean?
Thanks

The lid on my T410 sits fairly close to the lower bezel when closed, so there is not much up and down movement when pressed. Some yes, but not much. Now if I move it up and down with a finger there is some slop in the latches, perhaps 1/8 inch or so up and down movement.

Can you explain the finger sentence you were talking about? If I walk with mine and it hits against my hip or something, it makes a clicking sound. If I press a finger down on the lid, it will move down just a tiny bit and it makes a sound. It's secured and locked but it moves you know?

If I simply press down there is almost no movement of the lid. If I hold the lid by the front sides and move it up and down myself, it has about 1/8" play. Does that make more sense?

mine doesn't move if i press down on the lid with my finger in the front. if i use both hands or hold it, it rattles a little bit. How can I fix this? That's the only problem and I don't want to send it in just because of it, any help? thanks. Also, I have 14 minutes left and this is the first time I used the battery. It says discharging and at 7% it said it will hybernate. How long do I wait before charging it fully? Thanks

You can start charging it at any time. Since my T410 lid has the same play, I have to bet it is not something that can be fixed. Lets hear from a few others ...

Thanks, the battery was fully drained for the first time. Now it's charging and the indicator went from blinking red to blinking green. How do I know when it's done or percentage wise without turning it on? Thanks

Solid green, no blinking = Full charge

Just got my T410 today, also.
I also noticed a slight bit of travel in the lid when it is closed & latched. I think mine travels less than the 1/8" Harryc described, maybe 1/16" on mine, or less. Very minor.
I've charged the battery until its solid green. I've been busy so I haven't even powered it on yet. I'm waiting until I have some dedicated time to spend with it.

It's hard to measure the travel...but it could be 1/16th. I was never concerned with it either. I have my work T60 parked next to the T410 and I checked that lid...it has zero travel and is tight as a drum. Those T60's were made well ...

I wish mine was that tight. Mine travels, but I don't know if it's something I want to send in for. I found the problem. If I hold the latch and hold it, there's no travel at all. Interestingly, there must be a way to tighten the latch

Careful... its "plastic."

I see what you mean. I am guessing there's a spring in there that might be weak. I might open it up to take a look. Maybe it's as simple as removing the spring and stretching it out a bit then reinstalling it. There is a 'spring' mentioned in the maintenance manual 'Keyboard bezel miscellaneous parts' for the T410.
