Check temperature

I have a T410i. Its just a week old and i feel that the laptop is a bit too noisy and I can feel the heat on the arm rest above the hard disk. Not sure if the noise is from the fan or hard disk and not sure if the heat i feel is fine or took much.

I want to know if there is any tool in thinkpad that can check the temperature of the hard disk and the performance of the fan. Or a third party app that will do the task.

What is an optimum temperature for the hard disk? Is there any test to monitor the fan performance?

tpfancontrol - run it in BIOS mode to just monitor temps and fan.

You really just want to keep your HDD below 45C (Which it will happily do for you)
It'd be better if you could have it run below 40C (Which basically is every system that I own.)
